When you’re on location in the Tri-Cities, sometimes you just never know what will come by…
I had the pleasure this spring of photographing my friend (from all the way back to middle school!) Allison, her husband, Nick, and their daughter Leona as they are expecting the arrival of a baby sister later in May! I had the honor of photographing their wedding day back in 2021, so it was so special to see them again, at another big moment in their lives!
We had a nice evening down at the Chamna Natural Preserve. I have shot MANY photo sessions here, at just about every time of year, and although it’s a popular spot, it is so for a good reason. It’s beautiful all year long! It’s extra special in the spring when it’s fresh with new growth, and lots of spring colors. I brought along my little wooden chair that I like to bring when I have a toddler at the session. Little ones like to move, and it’s good to capture that, but when we need some still portraits, having a spot just for them helps to keep them still for a little while so we can get the shot!
So there we were capturing some sweet moments of this growing family and big sister-to-be, and there came along three horses (and their people). Little Leona got pretty excited to see them, and the riders stopped so we could say hello, and pet, and sit on the horses! I could tell Leona was a mix of uncertainty and excitement, and it was so sweet to capture her with those gentle horses.
And that’s how a family session turned western!
Allison, Nick, and Leona, thank you so much for trusting me with your memories as you anticipate another baby. It’s so good to capture the memories of your family of three before it changes! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, and the arrival of your baby girl! I can’t wait to meet her too!
