While late-summer or early-fall are the most popular times of year for a high school senior portrait session, I’ve got to say that a spring session (yes, while you are still a junior!) might be just perfect for an easy, relaxed session! Here’s why I think this time of year is great for your senior photos:
- The weather is cooler! May temperatures are just way more comfortable than the July or August heat. This is also great for your photographer 😉
- FLOWERS! If you are looking to include flowers in your photos, the best time for flowers is in May! Whether it’s the local wildflowers, or the ones growing in the gardens, they look so fresh and lovely before the summer heat hits.
- It’s done and out of the way, before your senior year even starts. Let’s face it, senior year is BUSY, especially right at the beginning of the school year. If your photos are already done and delivered, you’re all set and off to a great start of your last year! One less thing to stress about!
Summer photos are of course totally great too and some of my favorite locations are best in the summer, but you might consider springtime for your photos. It’s a smart way to go!
Natalie, Kamiakin High School class of 2026, scheduled her session for May during the end of her junior year. We had some bad luck with windy weather, and rescheduled a couple of times, but eventually we got the most perfect evening by the Columbia River. This spot has the most perfect woodsy feel, when really we’re still in the middle of the Tri-Cities! It’s one of my favorites in the fall too!
Natalie, thank you for scheduling your session early so we could beat the heat of summer! I really appreciate your bravery, sweetness, and beautiful smile! You look radiant in these photos, and I hope they brought you confidence and joy! Now that you’ve got your photos out of the way, it’s on to SENIOR YEAR! You’re going to shine! Congrats!
