The Heaton family came to see me for fall family photos at the Chamna Natural Preserve this year. Margo wanted to capture the fall vibes with her husband Howard cute little girls. Chamna is a popular choice in the fall, and for good reasons! Look at all the fall colors!
We also needed just the right amount of flexibility since we definitely had to move around their session date due to weather. Flexibility is a must for October sessions!
Flexibility is also a must in terms of expectations for kids during sessions. While we of course strive for that perfect family picture where everyone is smiling calmly at the camera, every parent knows that the reality of that happening is a different story. Sometimes kids aren’t interested in the session no matter how many snack, treats, or bribes you bring, and I’m just here to tell you that it’s totally okay!
While the perfect smiling family photo is great, I think there’s something a little more magical in capturing the little moments that unfold naturally over the course of our hour together. Those little sister moments, or that feeling of wonder when we find a neat bug, or rock, or stick. Those whispers between dad and the kids that bubble into giggles and joy. The moments when the kids pretend to be lions, or beavers, or dragons. And the snuggles through all of it. So when the kids are doing kid things, there’s magic there and I like to capture it!
Margo, thank you for choosing me to capture the magic of your family this fall! I hope these memories of your adventurous girls will be cherished forever and serve as a sweet reminder of this season of your lives. Happy Fall!
